"Creating a collage is, for me, a process of unfolding. I collect images which interest me from magazines and catalogues as well as sea-shells, beads, keys, bling, etc. on an on-going basis. When I sit down to work (I call it play), I may have a vision of what I want to create, but as I proceed, the collage takes on a life of its own. It dictates to me what it might need, but it has to settle for what materials I actually have to work with, which may seem like a curious fit. As it evolves, what may seem incongruous then excites me as I start to see what is emerging -- aspects of my inner world, my beliefs, my humanity, my whimsy, even the messy stuff. Apparently, what I have to work with is exactly what I need, and I realize that having the courage to create offers the possibility of self-awareness."
